 Queen Victoria’s Sword and Guns

Akwamufie Palace in the Eastern Region is where these  artifacts are housed.  They comprise 2 guns and a sword inside a Scabbard.  The Two guns and a sword were seized by Nana Asomani at the Osu Castle.  The seizure of these weapons signify the bravery of the Akwamu people.

 
 

Osu Castle Keys

These are also located at the Akwamufie Palace – Eastern Region.  The artifacts are a bunch of Keys. There are about 22 Keys in the bunch.  The Keys are exhibits at the Akwamufie palace.  The keys signify the bravery and sagacity of the Akwamus through Asomani. The Kwahus claim they were the first humans to settle on this part of the earth. They settled at Nyanawase near Nsawam.  Some lived at Osu and Otublohum.  Asomani from Osu rose to conquer the Osu Castle. They assert the Castle was theirs and they hired it out to the Europeans at £600.  So it was their right to retrieve it at that time.

Akwamufie Palace

Akwamufie – Eastern Region. This architectural edifice is the palace of Akwamufiehene.  It is a traditional monument and a tourist attraction.   Women in their menstrual period are not allowed to enter the palace.  Fresh yams of the year are not allowed to enter the palace until the Yam Festival is over.

Adomi Bridge

Adomi BridgeLocated at Atimpoku, Eastern Region.  It is a steel Suspension Bridge.  The Adomi Bridge links the Eastern Region to the Volta Region across the River Volta.  This is a modern engineering spectacle.

The Akosombo Hydro Electric Dam

This is Situated at Akosombo in the Eastern Region.  This is a site where electricity is produced from the Dam of the Volta River.  The Akosombo Hydro Electric Power project is what supplies electricity to Ghana.  This a modern scientific and engineering spectacle.

The Krobo Mountain (Kloyo)

Location: - Okwenya – Eastern Region.  The Krobo Mountain is a rocky mountain which spreads out over a large area.   Krobo Mountain is the ancestral home of the Krobos.  It is a tourist site.  The mountain is a sacred site where the natives of Krobo pay homage to their ancestors and the spirit of the mountain during thier annual festival.

 
 

Manya Krobo Palace Museum

The Konor’s (Paramount Chief's) Palace is situated at Odumase - Krobo, in the Eastern Region.  This architectural edifice is a palace which doubles as a museum.  It is a heritage site and a tourist attraction.  The people have ethnographic materials ancient remains and cultural relics bearing on their past.

Tukuhwe, Kenglesi and Okwenya Groves.

The Okwenya Plains – Eastern Region. These are sacred groves or pockets of forested lands reserved for ritual purposes.   These are extensive lands yet to be developed.  They have vast clay deposits.  No one visits the groves unless permitted to do so by the traditional priests who are in charge.

Spoils of War

The Palace of the Konor of Manya Krobo is where these are kept. Spoils of war are military accolavements which were confiscated by the victorious side from the POWs and opponents. These are heritage objects kept in museums for people to see.  Spoils taken from Kumasi in 1890 when the Krobos under King Sakite I helped the British to capture Prempeh I when the British departed to the Seychelles Islands soon after the Yaa Asantewaa War.

Anum Presby Church

Anum – Eastern Region. This is an architectural edifice which has spanned a 100 years of existence. An area view from the Church’s tower has a nice scenery of the Volta Lake, the bridge and the confluence of the Volta and Afram rivers.  The Church is now a School.  It has served the community as a Church and a School.

The Unusual Stone

This isd found at Amate of Kwahu South District in the Eastern Region.  This is a huge igneous rock shaped like a tiger with a human head.  The rock embodies caves as well.  It is a major tourist attraction.  The rock is believed to habour some supernatural powers.

Dwarf Islands

Located at Donkorkrom (Afram Plains) – Eastern Region. This geographical feature is a group of small Islands dotting the River Volta.  The Islands are formed as a result of the construction of the Man-made Volta Lake.  It is a scenic attraction.  The Islands are inhabited by farmers.

 Bruku Mountain

This can be found at Nkawkaw, Eastern Region.  This is a geographical attraction whereby a mountain has jolted out of the Kwahu Hill.   It is a scenic attraction. The islands are inhabited by farmers and fishermen.  The islands are formed as a result of the construction of the Man-made Volta Lake.

Brass Pan

This Brasss Pan is found in the Birim River near Kade – Eastern Region.  A brass Pan suspended underneath the river surface but does not touch the river floor.  This violates the law of flotation.This mystical occurrence attracts a lot of visitors particularly during festivals.   It is believed that the river god sits in the suspended brass pan that is why it suspends in the river against physical laws.
 

 
 

Anokye Batakari

Located at Asamama – Eastern Region.  This is a magical garment made of leopard skin.  It is interspersed with magical objects like charms amulets and deviation objects. This garment is a heritage object which attracts tourists. It is one of the legacies of Okomfo Anokye when he was leaving to Asante from Awukugua.

Osei Tutu’s Sword

Apapam – Eastern Region. This is an Asanteman War sword seized from King Osei Tutu.  This is a heritage object which signifies the bravery and gallantry of the Akyem people. This is kept at the Bresaa Shrine at Apapam.  This is the Sword carried by King .

Akyem Batakari

This can be found at Kyebi in the  Eastern Region.  This is a Bullet proof Wardress which is fortified with amulets and charms.   The smock is made of leopard skin.  This is a cultural relic and a traditional war regalia used by Okyeman Chiefs. The smock is 350 years old.  It was first used by King Kuntunkununku I.

Bresaa Shrine 

Apapam –Eastern Region . This heritage site is a shrine which houses a local deity who is the god of war. The Shrine is a tourist site.  It is about 5 km. from Kyebi.  Bresaa Shrine accommodates the Okyeman god of War.   The Golden sword of King Osei Tutu is at the Shrine. The King is believed to have been conquered and killed here during their 99th war with the Akyems.

Ofori Panin-fie

 This is located at Kyebi in the Eastern Region.   Ofori Panin-fie is a palace which accommodates the “Hall of Justice” ancient artifacts and archival records which date back to the 15th Century.    Ofori Panin-fie is a research centre for researchers in west African History, Ghana and the Laws of the Akans.   It is a unique site for tourists and researchers into African History and Culture.

Agyempremso 

Old Tafo – Eastern Region.   Agyemprenso is a Shrine which houses a local deity. It is a heritage site where the spiritualists in the community commune with primeval nature.   The Shrine is over 400 years and serves as the spiritual nerve centre of the community. The Ohumkan and Ohumkyire festivals are initiated here.

Obootumpaa 

Obootumpaa Village near Suhum – Eastern Region. This is a kind of rock formation in nature which has the semblance of talking drums (Atumpan).  It is a heritage site and a tourist attraction. The area is predominantly hilly.

Coiled Palm Tree 

This found at Bomofo – Densua near Suhum.   The Coiled Palm Tree is serpentile in form.  It is an ordinary Palm Tree preserved over the years. The Palm Tree depicts some of the mutations in nature. There are spiritual norms associated with changes in phenotype.

 Susumansa Tree

 Akyem Swedru Palace – Eastern Region Akyem Bosume Traditional Council.  This heritage Object is a big tree. The big tree helps restore the ecological balance of the place. It is believed to have a spiritual myth surrounding it.

 
 

Katawere god and gun

Location: Akyem Swedru Palace – Eastern Region Akyem Bosume Traditional Council . This artifact is part of the weapons used to fight the Gyamans under Nana Adinkra.  The gun is on display at the Akyem Swedru Palace to signify the bravery and gallantry of the people.   This is believed to be the gun used to fight Nana Adinkra and his men who later died in an ensueing battle with Nana Bonsu Panyin of the Ashantis after copying the Golden Stool.  Gyaman Chief from Brong Ahafo.

Kantamanto Drums

Akyem Swedru Palace – Eastern Region Akyem Bosume Traditional Council. This is a set of wooden drums. It is now part of the traditional ensemble of the Akyem Swedru palace.  it is believed to have been handled down from Ashantis to Bosome Chiefs for their bravery to support Asante wars. Ahoma Bosom

Ahoma Kasofoo / Ahoma Kyem Sekunde Street at Akyem Swedru – Eastern Region.   Ahoma Kyem is revered as a godly rope.  It has some mystical powers because it is believed to be inhabited by the gods.   Some bleed (with blood) when cut.  It has a spiritual significance. It is forbidden to cut this rope because it is believed that there is human blood in it.


Yenim, Yennka

This situated Near Akyem Swedru – Eastern Region.   Yenim Yennka is a sacred grove.   A small pocket of forest reserved.   Sacred groves restore ecological balance.  A reserved forest where slaves were kept to be killed for stool rituals.


The Big Tree at Asanteman 

Asanteman near Akyim Oda – Eastern Region Birim South District Assembly / Akim Kotoku Traditional Council. This heritage object is a big tree which has been reserved over the years. The big tree helps restore ecological balance. There is a spiritual myth surrounding the existence of this tree.

Sacred Grove at Nyanoa Hill

Nyanawase near Nsawam – Eastern Region.  This is a forest reserved for sacred purposes. This forest is preserved as the first place of settlement and a tourist attraction. The sacred Grove is the first settlement of the Asamankese people in the 16th and 17th centuries.


New Juaben Palace / Museum 

Location: Koforidua – Eastern Region .  This architectural edifice is a palace which combines as a museum. The Museum has on display historical relics, artifacts and ancient remains of the Juaben people. The people have ethnographic materials, ancient remains, and cultural relics bearing on their past.

Obuotabiri (Mountain and Shrine)

Koforidua – Eastern Region .  Obuotabiri is a mountain.   At the base is a shrine.  The mountain is part of the chain of highlands in the region.  It is a tourist site and a place for communion with primeval nature. The shrine is visited during festive occasions by the traditional priests.

 
 

Boti Falls

Location: Boti near Huhunya – Eastern Region. This is a river which descends down a steepy rocky hills and gathers into a pool underneath the rocks.  The site serves as Durbar grounds for Chiefs.  The falls is a natural tourist attraction. Swimming at the foot of the falls is not allowed.

Okomfo Anokye Oware

 Awukugua Akuapem – Eastern Region.  Anokye Oware is a traditional game made from Sese blood.  Six pairs of shallow are groves are dug out of the Sese wood. 48 marbles are used to play the game. This traditional game – Oware is now a heritage object which reminds the people of Okomfo Anokye.  It is believed that while pronouncing curses on the people of Awukugua. OKomfo Anokye placed a wooden slab across the Oware. This action can attest to the fact that he was not playing games but rather he was performing a serious.   Anokye conjured seven shallow holes to emerge from a stone to signify the Seven Tribes and Streets of Awukugua.

The first Cocoa Farm of Gold Coast planted by Tetteh Quarshie in 1879

Located at Mampong Akuapem in the  Eastern Region with the Family of Tetteh Quarshie . Tetteh Quarshie planted Cocoa Seeds in a garden on experimental basis and this gradually developed into the first Cocoa Farm in the country in 1879.  Tetteh Quashie bears the sole credit as the Amelonado Cocoa plantain in the country.  The original nursery is now part of the Aburi Botanical Gardens.  Tetteh Quarshie traveled to Fernando Po, an Island off the Gulf of Guinea.  On his return, he brought home cocoa seeds which he nursed at Mampong.  Out of this nursery he established the first cocoa farm in Ghana in 1879.

Aburi Botanical Gardens

Location Aburi – Eastern Region, Department of Parks and Gardens . This is a botanical garden spread out on a large piece of land. The garden has in stock countless species of tropical tress and plants.  The Botanical Garden has been set out for research purposes.   It is a place for research into plants and a place for relaxation.   It is a major tourist attraction.  The Garden was set up by the Colonial Administration many years ago to preserve certain tropical wood species.

Asipim Stool

Mampong Akuapem – Eastern Region.   Asipim Stool has the semblance of a chair.   The Seat is made from animal skin.  It is decorated with brass fittings and has a regal outlook. This artifact is a heritage object which attracts tourists.  It reminds the people of their beloved Nana Akuffo I. This Asipim Stool was used by the Late Nana Akuffo I.
